With a number of public health issues in the spotlight, including a rise in suicides and opioiod overdoses, municipalities are left wondering why the Ford government is considering cutting the number of public health units in the province.
A line in last week's budget, signalled the Ford Tories plan to merge units and cut the number from 35 to 10 over the next two years.
The government is also slashing funding for public health by 200 million dollars.
The province says its part of a plan to modernize the way public health units are organized, allowing for more of a focus on Ontario's residents and more efficient service delivery.
