West Nile virus has claimed the life of one person in Haldimand Norfolk.
The region's health unit says they have had six diagnosed cases so far this year.
Five mosquito pools have also tested positive for the virus including two in Cayuga,and one each in Simcoe, Dunnville and Caledonia.
In a release, the region says "The positive human cases and positive mosquito pools are a clear indication the threat of West Nile virus is present within our region and the public must take measures to protect themselves."
