It looks like it happened again, another report of black water staining the Niagara River.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation says it is investigating another possible discharge into the river from the Niagara Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The DEC say its conservation officers were called out yesterday afternoon, just after 3:30, to investigate discoloured water near the Maid of the Mist boat dock.
In a statement issued last night, the Niagara Falls Water Board, says heavy rain yesterday caused an overflow.
Officials with the water board write, “When this volume of water occurs, the waste water treatment plant is permitted to overflow the 100-foot weir, with the water then passing through the monitoring station."
They say it is unrelated to a black, smelly discharge released into the river on July 29th which was blamed on human error.
