There is a call for volunteers from Distress Centre Niagara.
The centre operates a 24 hour call in line that supports people in times of mental health crisis.
Stacy Terry, Executive Director, says you do not need any prior training to get involved, ""what we really look for are individuals who are interested in doing the work, and are committed to the work. We provide all of the training, get everyone prepared, skilled, and ready to go."
Terry adds that they have seen an increase in the number of calls, "we would have taken between 10-13,000 calls in the past and in the last 4 or 5 years it is up to 15,000 calls a year."
