Residents of Grimsby can breathe a little easier after a distressed raccoon was picked up by the Lincoln County Humane Society.
Several residents in the Hemlock Way area reported the animal to town staff.
Witnesses say the raccoon was limping and did not seem afraid of people.
Residents are always encouraged to stay away from wild animals, especially when they begin to act strangely.
This comes after a total of 9 cases of raccoon rabies have been confirmed by Niagara Regional Public Health this year.
None of the confirmed cases are from the Grimsby area.
