Niagara residents with cottages in Muskoka are encouraged to stay away until floodwaters recede.
Yesterday afternoon the District Chair of the Municipality of Muskoka John Klinck declared a State of Emergency under the Emergency management and Civil Protection Act as waters continue to rise.
So far, three of the six municipalities within Muskoka have also declared a State of Emergency, including Bracebridge, Huntsville, and the Township of Muskoka Lakes.
At least 60 soldiers from the Canadian Armed Forces Reservists and four ten-ton trucks have been dispatched to the town of Bracebridge to help struggling residents.
Meanwhile, people who typically vacation in the area are being told many seasonal roads are impacted by washouts and flood damage, and there are numerous waterfront homes without any access.
Anyone who wants to check on their summer property is asked to wait until the flooding emergency has ended before making the trek.
