Hamilton's Mayor is weighing in on amalgamation talk in Niagara.
Fred Eisenberger is sharing his thoughts as the province and local municipalities consider changes to governance.
Eisenberger recalls Hamilton's amalgamation back in 2001 when the city was required to merge with five surrounding municipalities: Flamborough, Glanbrook, Stoney Creek, Ancaster and Dundas.
He says the communities did not lose their local identities, and he doesn't think Niagara's 12 municipalities would either.
St. Catharines residents are being invited to give their thoughts on the current structure of their local governments live at city hall.
The city's newly formed governance review task force is holding a public meeting tonight to discuss the province's review of regional government from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in St.Catharines council chambers on Church Street.
Free parking is available at city hall and Market Square.
The province's special advisers on governance review will be in Niagara tomorrow (May 1st) to meet with local individuals and organizations who have signed up previously to speak with them.
They are expected to make recommendations on governance, including the possibility of amalgamation to the minister this summer.
St. Catharines city council created its task force earlier this month to provide input to the province for the review.
