A Toronto based family physician and researcher is questioning the effectiveness of a common morning sickness treatment.
Doctor Nav Persaud once prescribed Diclectin to pregnant women experiencing morning sickness, but says his practice has now completely changed.
Going over thousands of pages of documents from Health Canada relating to a 2010 clinical study of the drug, Persaud found there was little difference in symptom reduction between women who took it and those who were given a placebo.
The company that makes the drug says its safety and efficacy have been proven in multiple studies, and an estimated 35-million pregnant women worldwide have used it to manage their symptoms.
