The IceDogs dreams of a 4-0 start came crashing down in a 1:34 span in the third period as the Petes salvaged the back half of the weekend home and home with an 8-4 victory. Coming off a 5-1 Saturday night home ice victory, the Dogs, looking to sweep a 3 in less than 3 day weekend, fought back from deficits of 2-0 and 4-1 to tie the game at 4-4 in the final period.
Down 2-0 in the first, Kirill Maksimov scored his third of the season on the power-play. Ben Jones and Akil Thomas were credited with assists. Shots were even in the first at nine apiece.
In period two, the Petes hit for two in a 1:25 to make it 4-1, before Akil Thomas cut the lead with Johnny Corneil and Elijah Roberts garnering assists.
In the final frame, the IceDogs demonstrated a little lightning of their own as Akil Thomas buried a power-play marker, his second of the day and fourth in as many games with assists from Corneil and Roberts. Zach Shankar's unassisted goal 37 seconds later made it 4-all. That's when the Petes responded with three goals in just over a minute and a half, adding a late power play tally to make it an 8-4 final.
