Mississauga's specialty teams and timely goaltending lead the hometown Steelheads to a 4-1 win over the IceDogs Sunday. A short-handed goal and a pair of power-play markers provided more than enough offence.
The first period short-handed score and a pair of middle period goals on the man advantage made it 3-0 after two. Stephen Dhillon faced 28 shots to that point, compared to 17 IceDogs attempts.
Coach Billy Burke challenged his team to get 15 third period shots and they did just that. The combination of Ben Jones, Dan Singer and Matt Philip were the most active and the most frustrated as a number of great chances never found the back of the net. Finally, at 6:28 of the final period, Dan Singer converted a Ben Jones rebound to make it 3-1 but the offence continued to be frustrated. The Steelheads scored with 8:28 to go to make it 4-1 Mississauga. 42-32 was the final shots count in favour of the Steelheads.
