First star Oliver Castleman scored a goal and added three assists as the IceDogs topped the Mississauga Steelheads 6-3 at the Meridian Centre. On a night of firsts, Philip Tomasino scored his first in the OHL and Elijah Roberts netted his first in a Niagara uniform.
Dan Singer scored the first of three power-play goals at 4:38 of the second, with Castleman and Matt Philip adding assists. The lead last 19 seconds before Tomasino celebrated his selection to the Under 17 Challenge at 6:38 with a great top corner shot, with linemates Andrew Bruder and Bradey Johnson drawing assists. The home team extended the lead to 3-1 as Zach Shankar's second of the season at 18:35 was an unassisted seeing eye shot through a maze of bodies from the left point.
A Mississauga power play goal again made it a one goal game until Kirill Maksimov's fifth, on a power-play 5 on 3, extended the advantage to 4-2. Akil Thomas' assist extended his point streak to nine games, with Castelman earning the second helper.
In period three, Castelman hit for his third, again on the power play, as Philip and Singer earned points. The Steelheads would get a goal closer before Roberts' right point shot from Thomas and Maksimov concluded the scoring at 10:38. Stephen Dhillon made 16 third period saves among 32 for the game to earn the win.
