Ben Jones scored a goal and added two assists as the IceDogs scored four unanswered in Erie, winning 5-3. Johnny Corneil chipped in with a pair of goals and Colton Incze made 26 saves for the first place ‘Dogs who completed their second.3 in 3 sweep this season.
Down 1-0 after one, Corneil tied it 1:51 into the middle period on a sweet feed from Jones. After the Otters notched a pair of goals, Jones replied with one of his own 23 seconds after the home side made it 3-1. His right wing snap shot beat the Erie netminder on his blocker right side for his 16th of the year. Erie held the shots advantage 24-20 after two.
In the third, Corneil tied it with his 12th of the season on a backhander as Jones and Matt Philip fed the puck from behind the Erie net. Philip Tomasino buried his 4th game winner of the year on his 5th rookie goal with 8:18 to play. Elijah Roberts and Akil Thomas helped out on Sam Miletic’s 20th of the season, his fourth in three games for Niagara, with 2:31 to play.
The defence would hold the Otters to 5 third period shots while managing 11 of their own. The IceDogs held the shots edge 29-24.
With Barrie’s loss at home to North Bay, the IceDogs end the weekend two points up on the Colts for first in the Central with a game in hand.
