The federal government has given its approval to a new roadside test for drugs.
Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould made the announcement yesterday.
She says police forces across the country will have the option of using the "Drager DrugTest 5000" which tests saliva for the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis.
The manufacturer says it will be able to meet demand for the roadside testing equipment within four to six weeks.
The Liberals have pledged over $160 million in funding for police training and drug testing equipment over the next five years.
