The St.Catharines overdose prevention site will continue to operate for another year.
The Ontario government has now approved 15 overdose-prevention sites under a new model.
The licence for the Queenston street site was set to expire on Sunday, but will now stay open for another year.
Executive Director of Positive Living Niagara, Glen Walker tells CKTB he is delighted saying they have worked very hard to make a case for the clinic in St.Catharines and it has been extremely well used in the community.
He says 140 people use the site, some are repeat customers.
Walker says they have saved 55 lives by counteracting the effects of a drug overdose, and have only had to transfer two patients to hospital.
The PC Ford government approved 15 out of 21 sites across Ontario and are renaming them ``Consumption and Treatment Services'' sites.
Walker wants to move the clinic to another larger location in the next few weeks within the same neighbourhood, but won't say exactly where until the lease is signed.
He says for now services will continue at the Positive Living Niagara office.
