The DSBN Board of Trustees have approved the 2017-2018 budget.
The budget, valued at more than $460 million, includes a $21 million increase from the previous year.
In a release, the board says the increase is largely due to the cost of implementing labour agreements negotiated by the province that include increases in salaries and benefits.
Funding to reduce class sizes also accounts for a percentage of that increase.
Increased enrolment at the Board has also allowed the DSBN to add the equivalent of 43 full-time teachers, 15 will be directed to support special education programming.
The Board will also add a further 17 Educational Assistants as well as some school support staff.
