But in a move that could hurt charitable organizations on this side of the world, several African countries are considering a ban on second hand clothing imports.
Stores like Value Village, sell clothing they can't move, to wholesalers or resellers in developing nations.
But the East African Community which represents Tanzania, Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan and Uganda is proposing a ban on the resale of our discarded clothes, arguing it is hurting sales of domestically made clothing.
The move could hurt organizations like Diabetes Canada which raises about $10 million a year from the sale of used clothes to retailers like Value Village.
