A St.Catharines vet who was caught on camera abusing animals in his care is hoping for a new start.
Doctor Mahavir Rekhi, who was suspended for 10 months by the College of Veterinarians in 2015 is now working a six-day week at the Skyway Animal Hospital.
Rekhi received the punishment after his co-workers released surveillance video showing him punch and hit dogs and cats in his care.
Four employees filed a complaint about the mistreatment.
As part of the ruling, he was also given the option of reducing the suspension to six months if he attended training programs, which he completed.
Rekhi was also charged with 16 counts of animal cruelty, however the charges were dropped in November.
He reopened the Welland Ave. clinic in June 2017 with a large passionate group of protestors outside the building.
For many weeks he only worked one day a week, but that has now changed.
Dr. Rekhi is now open and treating animals everyday but Sunday.
The vet talked to CKTB today saying while business is slow, this is a new beginning for him.
He confirms he is the only vet working at the clinic and is hoping to remain working at the clinic for many years to come.
Reviews on website search engines show some residents are happy with his services, and have given him four-star ratings.
