The federal government is trying to figure out how the budget for its extended employment insurance program ballooned from just over $827-million to nearly $1.3 billion..
The program unveiled last year was designed to help support workers in 15 regions of the country with stubborn unemployment rates.
The Liberals had calculated that about 235 thousand people would use extra weeks of employment insurance benefits between April of 2016 and March of 2019.
