The federal government is adding five groups to its national list of terrorist organizations.
It's putting the international neo-Nazi network Blood & Honour and its armed branch, Combat 18 alongside al-Qaida, the Islamic State group, Boko Haram and about 50 other groups.
Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale says these groups are exploiting social media and other online platforms to spread dangerous propaganda and recruit new members.
That opens the groups up to criminal penalties and the seizure of assets.
