The MPP for Niagara Centre is lending his voice to the plight of a family from Welland who are facing deportation.
Jeff Burch has submitted a letter to the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Minister in support of the family of 46 year old Morufat Ogunkoya.
In the letter, Burch states the mother of three and her children left Nigeria due to religious persecution and the threat of violence; Ogunkoya is an ordained minister of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
She tells Burch the group her family is running from, is well connected and would be able to find them anywhere in Nigeria.
She says her older children were targeted and beaten on their way home from school while they still lived in the African country.
Burch wants the Immigration Minister to intervene by issuing a temporary residency permit which would allow the family to stay in Canada.
