Over the next decade, the St. Catharines Fire Department could be facing new challenges as the city builds up instead of out.
Last night the Fire Master Plan was delivered to council; among the chief concerns, responding to blazes in high rise apartment buildings.
The committee recommends bringing on more firefighters so the aerial truck could be brought out at any moment.
Other suggestions included rebuilding the fire training tower on Renown Road, putting a fire prevention officer in each platoon, and hiring another training officer.
The report was received by council and the fire department was directed to hold a public meeting to gather more input.
