The first cannabis plants for Niagara College's Commercial Cannabis Production program have arrived.
Fifty two-week old plants have been donated by Up Cannabis which operates a greenhouse in Beamsville.
Students will now nurture the plants right up until they are ready to be harvested and cured.
"Now that the plants are in, we get to put what we've been taught into action," Commercial Cannabis Production student Elizabeth Foley says via a release. "We'll get to see each stage of the plant’s growth right before our eyes, which is amazing – it’s so hands-on. I'm excited to see how they turn out."
Under current regulations, cannabis grown in the Niagara College facility will not be used or sold.
Once completing the program, students will receive a graduate certificate.
