Ontario Regional Chief Isadore Day says the province's First Nations welcome the recommendations released this week in a report on police oversight.
Day says transparency and accountability in the police service are vital to ensuring trust and people feeling safe in their communities.
Day says he hopes the provincial government moves to implement the report's recommendations -- with meaningful participation of First Nations.
But he notes the recommendations aren't new and are similar to those made in the 2007 Ipperwash Report into the fatal shooting of Dudley George by an O-P-P officer during a land claim dispute in 1995.
