The FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre will be paying tribute to a Canadian icon.
One year ago we lost Gord Downie, frontman of The Tragically Hip and tireless advocate for Indigenous Affairs and the environment.
In recognition of Downie's legacy, the FirstOntario PAC will be hosting a tribute concert tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.
Producer of the show Kevin Fox says the funds raised be going to the Downie/Wenjack Fund and building a Downie/Wenjack Legacy Space at the FirstOntario PAC.
"Performing Arts Centres are often called Arts and Culture Centres, its not a specific title, but I can't think of a better space for a legacy space to be erected. A place to welcome the community to come and engage in the conversation to do with reconciliation."
A sunrise ceremony will also be held at 7:15 a.m. tomorrow morning behind the FirstOntario PAC. A sacred fire will burn there throughout the day.
Following the concert, a Tragically Hip Sing-along will also be happening around the sacred fire.
