The NPCA is asking residents living along Lake Erie to closely monitor local conditions.
It says strong southwest winds gusting to 110km/hr can be expected along the Lake Erie shoreline Sunday.
The direction and speed of the wind will cause water levels to rapidly increase in the Eastern Lake Erie Basin.
Water levels in the lake are well above average for this time of year, although currently, they are below critical levels in our area.
The NPCA is anticipating water levels to increase by 1.3m at Port Colborne and 1.9m at Fort Erie, above current water levels. During this event localized flooding of low-lying backshore areas is likely.
With about 90 percent ice cover on Lake Erie, there is also an increased risk of ice shove and piling along the shoreline.
