As the Premier tours through Niagara, the start of the school year weighs heavily on many parents' minds.
Premier Doug Ford and Economic Development Minister Vic Fedeli are making several stops in Niagara today ahead of a 1 p.m. announcement in Beamsville.
While speaking with CKTB's Matt Holmes this morning Ford would not reveal the details of the announcement. However he addressed concerns about sending kids back to full classrooms.
"My biggest concern with all the kids is you put 2 million of anyone in the system with 160,000 teachers it's inevitable someone within that 2 million, or 2,160,000 people, someone - and I pray to God it doesn't happen - is going to get COVID. My concern is bringing it home and they're living with their grandparents."
He also responded to allegations that his government isn't doing enough to scale down class sizes. "I'm not sparing a penny to make sure our kids are safe. These are the things I lose sleep about. Our kids. I have four girls, they are grown up now, but nothing is more important to me, and I'm sure every parent out there, than taking care of our kids."
Elementary school classes will not be broken up into smaller groups.
Some smaller high schools in Ontario will be allowed to offer a full-time in class model.
