Looks like the province's blue box recycling program is in for some major changes.
A report from a special advisor to the government finds that recyling rates have stalled in the last 15 years.
And 30 percent of what is put into blue boxes is sent to landfill.
Environment Minister Jeff Yurek - who received the report yesterday --- says it's clear the current program in unsustainable.
He say there are no uniform standards. Each municipality has their own separate lists of acceptable materials and that affects cost savings and contamination.
Overhauling the program could take years but Yurek believes there will be cost savings for municipalities.
