Energy minister says a move by the government to cancel more than 750 renewable energy contracts will save ratepayers 790 million dollars.
Greg Rickford says the government also plans to introduce legislation that would protect hydro consumers from any costs incurred from the cancellation.
Rickford says the move is part of a campaign promise made by the P-C's during the spring election to end the projects, calling them ``unnecessary and wasteful.''
Earlier this week, the government said it was cancelling a wind project in Eastern Ontario that's just weeks away from completion.
