A former Niagara Falls resident has made the single largest donation in Canadian history.
Montreal's McGill University has received a $200-million gift towards a graduate scholarship program from John and Marcy McCall MacBain.
The donation will be used to support up to 75 Canadian and international graduate scholars every year.
John McCall MacBain said at the announcement today that the students in the program will be given mentorship, international experience and leadership development in addition to funding for their studies.
The MacBain family is well known in Niagara, with a recreation centre even named after the philanthorpist family in Niagara Falls.
McCall MacBain, 61, is the founder of classfied ad company Trader Classified Media, while his wife Marcy is an academic and researcher in the field of evidence-based medicine.
