A former Niagara IceDogs Goalie has been killed in a car crash.
Police say 24-year-old John Chartrand died following a crash on Highway 401 near the 404 on Friday.
Chartrand is from North York and was pronounced dead at the scene.
It's believed that a transport truck had slowed down in the construction zone when his car slammed into the back of a truck around 3 a.m.
He played for the Niagara IceDogs for parts of two seasons from 2009 to 2011
The IceDogs tweeting out that they are heartbroken to hear of his passing and their thoughts and prayers are with the family.
