Fort Erie Town Council has rejected a motion to enact an interim cannabis control bylaw.

Fort Erie Town Council has rejected a motion to enact an interim cannabis control by-law.

Mayor Wayne Redekop and Councillor Butler declared a conflict of interest and did not participate in the close 3 - 2 vote.

If the motion had passed, it would have but a halt on new developments until a planning study could be completed.

Later on in the meeting, Councillor Kimberly Zanko put forth a motion to hire a consultant to provide a cannabis industry study in regards to planning policies for rural, agricultural, and industrial land.

The second motion garnered unanimous approval.
