A Fort Erie couple is being called heroic after rescuing a dog and putting out a fire.
18 year old Alex Brigantino and his girlfriend, 16 year old Christina Pascuzzi were visiting a friend this afternoon at around 1pm when they spotted smoke coming from a home on Albany Street.
Alex says the deck attached to the home was engulfed in flames.
Alex says he called 911 then rushed over and kicked down the door to rescue the dog inside the home.
He says once the dog was safe he found a hose and started dousing the flames.
Police and fire officials arrived on the scene and thanked the couple for saving the dog and putting out the flames.
The homeowner arrived on the scene shortly after and also thanked the couple.
Alex says he's happy the dog is safe.
He just graduated from Lakeshore High in Port Colborne and is thinking about going to school in Toronto for music.
