An update on a deadly summer motorcycle crash in Niagara that has left a Fort Erie family in mourning.
Police are appealing to the public once again and have now unveiled the air mattress believed to have sparked a deadly crash in Welland.
OPP held a news conference today asking the public to take a look at the inflatable mattress and an appeal for its owner to come forward.
The accident happened at around 9:30pm on Friday July 7th in the northbound lanes of the 406, just north of the East Main roundabout.
Police say three motorcycles came across the inflated air mattress, and the first driver was able to avoid it but a 55 year old driver and his passenger were ejected from the second bike.
A third biker tried to move around the air mattress but hit the second bike.
Police say the air mattress fell out of a pick up truck.
The double-sized mattress is dark navy blue.
55 year old Donald Pidgeon from Fort Erie died in the crash.
OPP Detachment Commander Dan Briggs says the area of the 406 where the accident happened is quite dark and it would have been difficult to spot it on the roadway since it's a dark blue.
The OPP's Sgt Kerry Schmidt says the family of Pidgeon is desperate for answers.
Anyone with information is asked to call OPP 905-356-1311 or CrimeStoppers.
