Fort Erie has joined a number of Niagara communities with a ban on all open-air burning.
Officials say with the prolonged hot and dry weather, and in the interest of public safety, the town has issued a ban on all open air burning including rural open-burns and backyard/beach fires effective today and until further notice.
This ban also includes cooking fires, consumer fireworks and other types of outdoor burning.
Barbecues and other gas appliances are permitted under the ban, but the Fire Department advises residents to be careful when cooking.
If you see a fire within the Town of Fort Erie, please call 911 immediately to report it and fire crews will be dispatched to investigate.
An open air burning ban is also in effect in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Grimsby, Niagara Falls, Lincoln, Wainfleet and Pelham.
The ban will remain in place until there is some sustained rainfall and cooler temperatures.
