As the provincial government plans to invest millions of dollars into horse racing, officials in Fort Erie say the odds of slots ever coming back are slim.
Speaking to CKTB's Tim Denis, Chief Operating and Financial Officer for the Fort Erie Live Racing Consortium Tom Valiquette says it's very unlikely that slots will return.
"The government has determined quite frankly, and probably rightly so, that the market in Fort Erie has dwindled, [due to] numerous spots all around it at this point in time. Between Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and other places, the market has dwindled greatly."
The Ford government announced plans to pony up $10 million per year over the next seven years for Ontario-bred horses.
OLG and Ontario Racing have also signed an agreement committing up to $105 million a year for racetrack operations for up to 19 years.
The slots at Fort Erie closed in April of 2012.
