The Town of Fort Erie is responding after yesterday's announcement that the YMCA of Niagara is prepared to move forward with handing over the EJ Freeland Centre.
Today on CKTB, Fort Erie Councillor Nick Dubanow provided an update on where things stand as of right now.
Dubanow says the mood is positiveĀ and they're hoping the YMCA will continue to deliver services at the building, such as senior programs and adult fitness services.
Even if the YMCA decides they want to discontinue their operations at the Centre, Dubanow says he is confident the Boys and Girls Club Niagara will be able to step in and offer the services that Fort Erie residents have come to rely on at the EJ Freeland Centre.
One point of concern is the YMCA's stipulation that the building would be handed over no sooner than December 2nd, 2019.
Dubanow says this is a bit later than they would have liked, but the councillor adds the town is just happy there is a plan to keep the building occupied and services running.
The Town of Fort Erie will be holding another task force meetingĀ sometime next week to further discuss the YMCA's response.
