After hitting some speed bumps, the Fort Erie Transit Service upgrades are back on track.
The upgrades were delayed for about a month, but officials for the town say the new transit upgrades should take effect on Monday, October 2nd.
"Fort Erie’s large land mass and multiple population centres have created challenges for our transit services in the past," said Carla Stout, Transit Manager via a release. "With input from Council, the Town's citizen Transit Advisory Committee, multiple focus groups and a public survey, we were able to build the framework behind new transit routes, schedules and capabilities that meet most of the needs expressed by the participants."
Some of the highlights for the upgraded transit system include
- expanded routes in Fort Erie, Ridgeway, and Crystal Beach
- additional route to Stevensville and Black Creek
- Connections to Niagara Falls, Brock University, and Niagara College
- A new transit hub at the Municipal Centre
- Expanded hours (6 a.m. - 9 p.m. on all routes)
- pre-paid smart cards available as daily or monthly passes or dollar value
- audio and visual pre-boarding and onboard announcements of routes and stops
- a new transit website
Mayor Wayne Redekop says transportation has been a council priority since the beginning of this council term.
