Niagara Regional Police making an arrest relating to a drug that we are hearing a lot about lately.
Officers say today the Opioid Enforcement Unit concluded a fentanyl trafficking investigation in Niagara Falls.
Charged with trafficking fentanyl is Patricia Walstra of Fort Erie.
Walstra was released from custody with a future court date.
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is much stronger than heroin.
It is increasingly being used to cut heroin and morphine by dealers to save on manufacturing costs.
According to the latest estimates, fentanyl was the 10th leading cause of death in 2016, falling below kidney disease, liver disease and the flu.
