A footprint in the mud.
That's what led Niagara Regional Police officers to a missing American woman in Fort Erie.
Niagara Regional police say 35 year old Crystal Perry from Amherst, NY was found at around 12:15 this afternoon after spending the night in the heavy thick brush in the Dominion and Burleigh area.
She was found off trail.
An officer made a note of a footprint in the mud last night, and then officers went back to check the area again today when they came across her.
Perry was reported missing yesterday, and was spotted at 10 o'clock last night in Fort Erie after apparently knocking on some residents doors and appearing to be confused and disorientated.
The NRPS issued a Critical Missing Person statement this morning and fanned across the Fort Erie area looking for her.
She has been taken to hospital to be assessed.
Gavin says it's not clear why she crossed the border into Niagara.
