But some atmospheric scientists, south of the border, raising the spectre of the dreaded polar vortex.
While scientists at Atmosphere and Environmental Research say for now the projections remain more for entertainment, they are keeping an eye on the possiblity of a sudden stratospheric warming that could bring some pretty frigid temperatures our way for New Year's Eve.
And what is sudden stratospheric warming? It means there could be increased temperatures over Arctic regions which could push the coldest air over the North Pole into other parts of the Northern Hemisphere.
But so far our local weather prognosticators are forecasting a warmer than average end to 2018.
