The City of Niagara Falls has had to shut down its Municipal Service Centre on Stanley Avenue.
Director of Municipal Works, Eric Nickel confirmed the facility was closed last Thursday after a fuel leak was discovered.
The City is working with the Ministry of the Environment on remediation plans, removing fuel tanks, and cleaning up any spill from the leak.
Nickel could not yet determine what the costs associated with the leak and cleanup efforts will be, saying they are taking things “day by day”.
Staff has been relocated to other city buildings, while the Service Centre remains closed.
Nickel says employees will be allowed to return when it is safe to do so, with office staff likely back sooner than garage staff.
As the garage was directly impacted, it may be several months before it is deemed operational.
