Funerals will be held today for three members of a prominent family from Niagara who died last month in a small-plane crash in Maine.
58 year olds Joe and Anita Robertson, and their 24 year old daughter Laura died July 30th while aboard Joe's personal plane on a flight from Pembroke, near their cottage, bound for Charlottetown, PEI.
An investigation is under way into what prompted Robertson to attempt the emergency landing that saw him crash into a field near the airport in Greenville, Maine.
The Robertson's were well known philanthropists in Niagara who made a major donation that helped get the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre in St. Catharines off the ground.
Their daughter Laura who had recently been hired to work at the recreation and athletics department at Brock University, was also a volunteer firefighter in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Her father was also the former chair of Brock University's Board of Trustees.
Joe, Anita and Laura are survived by their sons and brothers, Taylor and Clark Robertson.
A celebration of their lives will take place in the Ian Beddis Gymnasium in the Walker Complex at Brock University.
