A big announcement has been made impacting Niagara's second largest employer.
We now know which company will operate the two casinos in Niagara Falls and the entertainment centre, which is currently under construction.
The Lottery and Gaming Corporation has entered into a 21 year contract with U-S Gaming firm Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment.
In a release the OLG says MGE will be required to retain current Falls Management Group employees for a period of no less than 12 months which it says is consistent with all other Gaming Bundles in Ontario.
Some politicians had worried the agreement would mean job losses since MGE is only required to keep current workers employed for one year.
Niagara Falls MPP Wayne Gates says he is concerned that there is only job protection for one year.
Gates says the good news is that MGE wants to keep both the Fallsview and Casino Niagara open.
Gates says they seem to be a good company and he's hopeful they will grow and protect the gaming industry in Niagara.
MGE is a company started back in 1996 in Connecticut. It runs casinos in Atlantic City, Washington State, and South Korea.
The gaming firm will take over the properties in the summer of 2019.
The casinos currently employ over 4100 people.
Gates says he plans on contacting MGE soon to let them know about some concerns he has, including Toronto's gaming industry expanding.
