More than 300 employees at Peterborough’s GE plant will be out of work by the fall of 2018.
Employees were told today the company would be closing the manufacturing side of its Peterborough plant.
The move leaves 358 employees without work.
GE will retain 50 people who will handle engineering services.
Vice President of Commuications Kim Warbuton says the decision is a result of reduced demand for its products.
GE is currently building a plant in Welland that is expected to employ 200 people and build reciprocating gas engines for various industries.
The 165 million dollar facility is schedule to be operational by May of 2018.
