After a Globe and Mail investigation revealed some disturbing statistics in the way Ontario police forces investigate claims of sexual assault, Halton police have joined their counterparts in London promising to conduct an internal review of those numbers.

The report by the Globe found Halton and Hamilton police dismissed 30 percent of sex assault claims over a five year period, labelling them unfounded.

The number is much higher than the national average of 19 percent.

While Halton police quickly agreed to investigate the statistics, Hamilton police have not yet said how they plan to respond to the report.

Niagara Regional police, meantime, fared a little better.

According to the report, 22 percent of sexual assault claims are deemed unfounded by Niagara police.
