The president for the union representing employees at GM in St. Catharines says they are prepared to support workers from the Oshawa plant.
Earlier this week, GM announced plans to shutter the Oshawa plant, putting 2,500 people out of work.
GM will also be closing several plants in the US.
Locally, President of Unifor Local 199 Greg Brady says workers in St. Catharines will be waiting for word from the National President Jerry Dias.
"We have basically told them whatever we can do to support them, we will. We will take whatever advice and whatever the National President Jerry Dias suggests we do, even if it's a fight back campaign."
Brady says he has been in meetings regarding the situation and does not believe they will be taking action immediately.
"There will be some type of action plan that the National President and the National Union will have us do probably in the near future. I don't suspect it will be until early in the new year."
There is no word at this point what a potential 'fight back campaign' could mean.
