GM has reinforced its position on the future of the Oshawa assembly plant after a meeting with Ontario and federal government officials.
Company CEO Mary Barra who met with Federal Economic Development Minister Navdeep Bains and Ontario Premier Doug Ford earlier this week reaffirmed the Oshawa closure at the end of this year.
GM however says they will continue to be a major manufacturer in Ontario with its St. Catharines and Ingersoll plants and an expanded automotive research base.
The federal government had asked the company to reconsider the Oshawa closlure and regrets that the company's position hasn't changed.
He said the federal government stands ready to play an active role to find a solution for Oshawa's workers.
