Education Minister Lisa Thompson says the math results in the province's schools are "unacceptable."
The province's Education Quality and Accountability Office says fewer elementary students have been meeting the provincial standards in math the last five years.
49 per cent of Grade 6 students met the provincial math standard last school year, down from 54 per cent in 2014.
Among Grade 3 students, the EQAO says 61 per cent met the provincial standard in math in last year down from 67 per cent in 2014.
