The town of Grimsby announcing that it will not cut off water service to people who do not pay their bills.
Town officials announcing today the elimination of water service disconnection as a means of collecting on overdue water accounts.
Overdue water bills will now be transferred over to the respective property tax account and charged a $40.00 transfer fee with no disconnection of water services.
The Finance Department is moving to a more fee-for-service based fee structure to reduce tax levy funding of tax account administration by introducing new fees.
New property tax accounts will be charged a one-time $40.00 set up fee while ownership changes will only be charged $20.00.
Errors in on-line payments, such as payments to a water account instead of a property tax account or to an old property tax account, will be charged a fee of $10.00 on the second and any subsequent payment transfer or refund.
Properties under tax sale will be charged a $500.00 administration fee and an additional $25.00 if the preparation of a tender package is required.
For tax account analysis requested for prior years regarding payments and interest, a fee of $30.00 will be charged. NSF fees are increasing to $30.00 from $25.00 and tax certificates are increasing to $50.00 from $35.00.
