A Grimsby builder has been fined $20,000 after a partially built storage barn collapsed due to winds and a lack of bracing and proper anchoring.
The Ministry of Labour says it happened in November of 2014 when a wood-framed storage barn was being built on a residential farm property in West Lincoln.
Court heard the four walls and roof of the barn had been erected on top of a concrete foundation but none of the walls had been braced to prevent movement or collapse, and the anchor bolts connecting the walls to the foundation had not been secured.
The Labour Ministry says the builder, Tom Ivezic of Grimsby, failed to meet several requirements, including that he give notice in writing to a ministry inspector within two days of the collapse as required under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
